    How about a different operating system on your device? Not sure what you are running now but there are links in My Blog to the latest OS by device, based on my profile it is newer than the OS you are running now. Suggest we upgrade and see if that changes the issue.

    Once again I want to confirm that the problem occurs on multiple PCs with the same device?

    Before I moved onto this new laptop, yes I experienced the same problem in the old one. But again, it all went fine (in the old laptop) and all a sudden the problem occured.

    And the strange part is, it could be running fine for a certain period of time (in the current laptop) but then fell into the problem without any prior notice.

    The OS on my device is v4.2.2.122.

    Just an idea, would there be anything to do with the USB port I use for connection? I suppose a proper connection can only be made via main USB port instead of anything out from hub. But you may know that there are several USB ports in one laptop. How can I be sure that the one I use is a main or one from hub?

    just tried all USB ports in my laptop, no one works!!! so guess it's not USB related!

    Suggest you try installing a newer device operating system, see if that helps.

    Newest is 4.2.2.205, check this link for download sites

    And here for directions to upgrade if needed....

    Have you tried uninstalling the current Desktop manager from your PC then going to c/program files/common files/ and deleted the research in motion folder. After that you would need to reboot and then install whichever version of desktop manager you are wanting to try next. Reboot again and then reconnect your device. As long as you have been having these issues I am sure you have tried this but just in case I thought I would throw it in there. Sometimes deleteing all traces of RIM from your PC will help.

    As I understand the situation it is occurring on multiple desktop machines so I don't think DM is the issue....

    Having similar connection issues on a Vista laptop. I plug my 8800 in and the charging icon comes on for 2 or 3 seconds then goes off. have confirmed usb ports, battery, usb cable...all good. uninstalled 4.7 and reinstalled...twice. same problem with 4.6. I haven't been able to sync for a week. getting close to calling it quits and upgrading the the Bold.

    man...i am as desperate as you are...i haven't been able to sync since my problem occurs...it's like months!! i just didn't want to change to Bold simply because of this connection issue....the whole thing was working perfectly fine in the very begining!!

    what the hell is happening here!!??

    I'm having the same issue as well... Just started and of course it happened after I completely wiped my BB so I have NOTHING and can't restore! Anyone have an update to this problem?? Thanks.

    The problem seems to be a common problem without having a fix for the moment. I have logged this issue for months....
