~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~Wow. I was having the same problem with my DM on XPSP2 and this got the program running again. Thanks, Geoff!

Any chance you could provide a dumbed-down explanation of what these steps do? I'm having similar issues with (non-BB related) software after a crash & restore of my XP. I suspect it has something to do with an unintentional change in my administrator account.

    Thanks again!

Re: Desktop Manager will not launch

I tried following the excellent instructions posted by geoffc32, but at step 7 the same error code popped up. After trying steps 9-11, I get oleaut32.dll with the same 0x80070005 error code. Help!

I have tried the above fixes and still no dice. When I double click on Desktop Manager 4.3 it open and closes immediately. I am on Vista Business Edition with BB 4.3 on BB 8830. Any ideas?

    Welcome to Pinstack.

Lets see if we can help you....can you confirm if you have performed a clean uninstall / reinstall of Desktop Manager already? Note below:

To remove BlackBerry Desktop Software in Microsoft® Windows Vista™, complete the following steps:
    1. Close BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
    2. Open the Control Panel.
    3. Select Uninstall a program.
    4. Select BlackBerry Desktop Software.
    5. Select Change/Remove.
    6. On the InstallShield Wizard window, select the Remove option, followed by Next.
    7. On the Uninstall Options window, select the check box labeled Remove all user settings for BlackBerry Desktop Software.
    8. On the Confirm Uninstall window, click OK.
    9. On the InstallShield Wizard window, click Finish.
Also can you confirm that BlackBerry Desktop Software was properlly installed using the Run as Administrator method?

Re: Desktop Manager will not launch

I just completed another clean uninstall as I am the administrator to the box. Blackberry is currently not on my D630 Laptop.

However, yesterday I performed a clean uninstall reboot, then reinstall of 4.3

    same problem again.

    Then tried...

Open a command prompt by clicking Start>Programs>Accessories>Command Prompt.
    Type the following: cd c:\program files\common files\research in motion\rimdevicemanager
    Press ENTER.
    Type the following: rimdevicemanager /regserver
    Press ENTER.
    Type the following: regsvr32 rimdevicemanagerps.dll
    Press ENTER.
    Type the following: exit
    Click Start>Run.
    Type the following: regsvr32 oleaut32.dll
    Click OK.

Attempted to open desktop manager and same thing.

So kind of in a loop here...

Ok...you seem to be a brave sort...if you are up to pokeing about a little deeper lets try this (involves modifying your registry - not for the faint of heart!)

Verify that you have Read access to the following registry keys by right-clicking on the registry key, choosing Permissions from the menu that pops up, and placing a check mark in the Read box:
    • HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\RIMDeviceManager.DeviceManager
    • HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\RIMDeviceManager.DeviceManager\C LSID
    • HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\RIMDeviceManager.DeviceManager\C urVer
    • HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\RIMDeviceManager.DeviceManager.1
    • HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\RIMDeviceManager.DeviceManager.1 \CLSID

GaryF - The above fixed it. Added read was the fix. Question is, how did it work previously for months on in.

Glad to hear you are up and running again....it is curious what caused the problem to begin with. Perhaps the evil empire (microsoft) updated late one night......

    Vista User still having problems.

I too am having problems with this issue. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium. I have the Blackberry 8830 from Verizon wireless and have downloaded and installed the latest version (latest one Verison has available) of the Desktop Manager (v4.3). I have followed all the instructions in this post so far, but as of yet no luck. I get the Blackberry Device Manger icon in the task bar, and can open up the properties window, but cannot open the Desktop Manager itself.

I have also tried running Desktop Manager "as administrator" with the same results.
