    Desktop Manager Frustration

I have been running version 4.2.2.14 of the desktop manager with my 8320. It was working well for quite a while, and then suddenly it would not sync my Outlook calendar.

I ran Microsofts scanpst tool, and it fixed a couple of calendar entries. Tried to sync again, and was greeted with a crash of the desktop manager.

I went to the BB site, and downloaded the latest version of the desktop manager, 4.3. After a 400 mb download and a painfully long installation process, I got the same error message that I now discover everyone else gets with 4.3. Seeking a solution, the most common remedy is to reinstall 4.2. Joy.

After installing 4.2 again, when I attempt to sync I am greeted with an error message that says nothing more than "????(?????)"

I kid you not. a bunch of question marks comprise the error message, and my only option is to hit the OK button.

When I hit the button, the program closes. Nothing is updated on the 8320.

When I worked in software development, we had a department dedicated to quality control. Do they not have such a thing in Canada?

    Re: Desktop Manager Frustration

I used Add/Remove programs to completely remove the desktop manager from my computer.

I then went to the T-Mobile website (as opposed to the Blackberry site) and downloaded Desktop Manager 4.2.2.14. Note that T-Mobile does not offer a newer version at this time.

I installed it and am now operational again.

So, it appears that T-Mobile's version of 4.2.2.14 is different than Blackberry's version of 4.2.2.14.

Not that it helps you directly, but I have seen this before. On a PC without Desktop Manager. In the end it turned out the hard drive was on it's last legs. Not saying that applied in your case but was indicative of some sort of corruption of the FS/OS.

Edit: that said, very odd about the two versions with the same version number, but glad it worked out for you. I'd never heard of a vendor-specific desktop manager before but good info to know in case I run into something similar.

Question Re: Desktop Manager Frustration - Can't Sync

I just got a new computer from work [Dell Vostro 1000]... I downloaded and installed DM 4.3 just fine. Only problem is that the 8130 won't sync [it synced fine from my old laptop just yesterday].

I can backup the device, run the media manger and app loader. I can even configure the sync settings but when I try clicking the Sync NOW button nothing happens... no errors or anything.

I did a clean uninstall and then reinstalled it. Still no syncing.

    Any ideas?
