Our CEO loves autotext and has close to 500 entries. We thought it would be nice if I could back up his autotext and then restore it on another like device. Since we both have the 8700c I used mine as the test receipient. I backed up just the autotext entries, disconnected his BB and then reconnected and redirected my own. When I went to restore the back up in question I received the error message "cannot restore read only database on device". Is there anyway around this? We'd love to find a way to share all these entries with other users in the company. Thanks all in advance for your help - whether or not there is a solution |

| Re: Backing up Auto text from one BB to Another dang! I can't imagine why they would make AutoText a "read only" file. Maybe it's a good suggestion to send along to RIM to include in their new 8700 along with GPS |

has anyone found the answer to this yet? I tried the backup/recovery and didn't work. This would also be extremly helpful in my office. Awaiting patiently! |

Now this brings up questions in my mind. I thought, when I did a complete Backup/Restore when transferring from my 7290 to my 8700, my auto-text updates were transferred also. But now, I'm not so sure. Of course, it's been a while and I have added many new ones to it, so the confusion arises. Oh, well Sorry I couldn't help Rcbjr. |

If you are restoring/backing up your own AutoText entries through the Desktop Manager it works fine. What we want to do is copy all of the CEO's autotext entries (close to 500) and have the ability to copy them to other users.

MBG, I appologize for the delay, I didn't get a chance to check right away and lost track of this thread. But the good news is that you should be able to use the Advanced feature of the Backup/restore capability to create a backup file with just the Autotext database from your CEO's BB, then distribute it with instructions on how to use the advanced feature to move that DB to their BB. Of course this will overwrite any updates they have created in their autotext DB. Hope this helps Rcbjr. |
