    Zimbra 5.0

    Zimbra, an open-source alternative to Microsoft Exchange Server that was acquired by Yahoo this past September, has released version 5.0 of its collaboration suite. The upgrades are various and wide-reaching, with support finally here for the BlackBerry and several improvements made to Zimbra’s browser-based email client.

    Rich J2ME Client (Beta)
    : The Zimbra experience is now available on Blackberry. Get email in conversation view plus your contacts and calendar all in real time.

    Native Blackberry Support (Beta):

    Hmmm, I am trying to understand the point of this product. It apparently provides email and contact sync, among other things, BUT requires you have BES. Now unless I am missing something, BES already does that.......

    I agree, I don't see the point! Unless you have to have it open source.

    8ES use still needs to use lotus notes or ms exchange for mail, calendar and contacts. This product reduces the TCO because it reduces the licensing fee associated with the mail store. Smart move for a smaller company looking to save a little cash but still stay connected.

    Is the Zimbra product that much cheaper than MS Exchange server? If so, it makes sense.
