The issue is that AT&T does not provide the service books to its customers. These service books are needed to use Yahoo messenger on this carrier. However, there is a workaround for this. Basically, you can backup your service books to your computer using Desktop Manager. Then, you restore these service books with a file that can be downloaded which contains the service books needed for yahoo messenger. Finally, you need to resend the service books to your device wirelessly from AT&T's website.

There are more detailed instructions here:

The thing is, this is for version 2.0 of yahoo messenger. I have tried this and it did work fine for me for that version. I am not sure if it works for this new version - 2.1.33. If anyone knows for sure feel free to share, but I will probably give it a try eventually. I have also heard that you can insert another carrier's SIM card into your device (if it is unlocked) and then download yahoo messenger and will receive the service books if that provider makes them available (such as T-Mobile). After that you can put your AT&T SIM back into your device. I have not tried that method though.

**Finally, remember that although these methods have been proven to be successful by many, its is done at your own risk!**

Yahoo messenger not working with Live messenger.

I'm having problems with the new Yahoo Messenger 2.1.33 on my blackberry 8330 not seeing any of my live messenger contacts online (msn, hotmail, live), and although i can send IM's from my Blackberry, and they do recieve them, I don't get any of their replies if they don't have yahoo...

    any ideas?
