Research in Motion confirms that WiFi devices will be available by year’s end. A CDMA version is also on the way to support the cell network standard used by Verizon Wireless and Sprint Nextel in the US and several carriers in South Korea.

The addition of Wi-Fi will be a boon to hotspot operators. There are approximately 5m Blackberry subscribers as of late in 2005. This will again make the life of RIM 3rd party software developers a bit easier with features that work better with more bandwidth, Wi-Fi service plans would almost certainly be cheaper than corresponding EVDO/HSDPA plans.

Blackberry unlike the Moto Q, Nokia E61 and other so called Blackberry killers will use far less bandwidth, making it logical to believe that the WiFi plans for Blackberry will be the most attractive - barring major competitor changes.

Depends of what you need but I think Wi-Fi is worth the waiting. Hope the trade up program of blackberry.com will be upgrade at that time

Damn, its great and bad news :/
alll these news feature come out wen I decide to invest in the 8700g. I guess I too will reluctantly yet joyously upgrade wen the time comes.
The only thing I'm concerend about is that I'm getting my friend a BB for his bday this week, but I wanted him to stay up to par with me in terms of device wise.
This is gonna be a delime, do I give him a late bday present or let him get the 8700 and stick with that.

It depends if he's new to blackberry the 8700 would be great for him I started with a 7290

I reckon it'll still be a while before it makes it out to Aus, so I'm in quite a good position to play with my 8700v for a little while before I make the upgrade, is this the same idea as the MP3/video/still camera one? If so, I'll be very happy! I couldn't ask for much more!

I would get the 8700g now for him, and when the newer OS and/or models come out, he can decide when he wants to upgrade.
