The new Sony Ericsson Idou will probably create as much hype as the original XPERIA. Not only it is the first 12 megapixel GSM cameraphone, but it's also the first device presented to ever run on the brand new open source Symbian user interface that's still being developed by the Symbian Foundation. The 3.5-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 360 x 640 pixels, GPS and Wi-Fi and the relatively compact size are just an added bonus to that already impressive novel package.

WOW!! Funny how I just saw the 8MP news the other day but this new "12MP" phone puts that one to shame and makes it so instantly a thing of the past. Sorry Samsung

There are a lot of high end devices coming out with touch screen, so RIM need to get the Storm up graded fast.

I dunno if RIM really has to worry about upgrading the storm ASAP, it is still technically a business device (although geared towards the consumer market) that isn't necessarily meant to compete with any of these HiDef 12MP camera phones we're starting to see.

While the Storm could use an upgrade, I don't think it would/should be because of products like this.

I don't think Samsung is out of the picture yet. Even though they don't 12MP on there phone, they do have a 720p hi def OLED phone with an HDMI input; so far I don't think any phone can top that unless they release on similar with a higher MP camera or higher res or contrast.

I would thought 480p or i. But 720p; that's better than some of the TV's out there. It will probably run about a grand.

12MP; that is nuts, that is better than the new Nikon s60 that has just 10MP

I see we agree that it does need an upgrade but my point is with all the touch screen phones RIM needs to have one that is very reliable. I don't expect bb right now to make devices that are going to compete with the phone above because as you said they are more of a business device although they have to still keep up with the times.

12 MegaPixels? Wow, just wow. Looks like Symbian wants to keep their game face on.

I have to agree, upgrades are needed. Low reas cameras was ok a year or two ago. But with so many business users using services like flickr, facebook and other photo sharing/social networking services, the importance of a good built-in camera is growing because of the rapid development of services and apps that rely more and more on the built-in camera.

Lmao. Just be sure not to run into people owning these phones or they'll pawn you by whipping out their camera features in comparison to our so inferior cameras.
