    Visual Voicemail for Blackberries

SpinVox has announced BlackBerry support for its interesting take on visual voicemail, but their version drops the voicemail in your inbox as an email or SMS to read instead of having to dial and listen (or click and listen in the iPhone's case). Unique to the BlackBerry version, the software syncs the callers name with your contacts to let that one click reply thing happen, via email or a call -- cool, right? Apparently RIM execs had a chance to trial the software and were so impressed with what they saw, the trial then became a product.

SimulScribe has a similar product. I tried it and it seemed pretty cool.

Yeah I tried this also, was really nice, but did you notice your battery life drastically drop? (also any issues with doing a backup after installing it? Now my backup stops at Profiles)

I tried simulscribe but I've gotten people used to txting or emailing me since I despise voicemail so the $10\month charge didn't make sense. I signed up for spinvox today but I thought it said it was free. maybe a free trial? Oh well, I'll try it out.

simulscribe really worked like a charm. I'm not really sure what the client was supposed to do on the blackberry (i was running a cingular pearl) but I got the text messages of the voicemail, and I could download and listen to the actual voicemail from the transcribed message

The whole thing that got me was paying for voicemail? I mean, I dread talking on the phone, but there is no way you will get me to pay for a service that is already included with my phone.

If Cinglular/AT&T can do this, then why can't other carriers? I think a few acquisitions are in order. These companies in my opionion won't last long as stand alones.

The BB application allows you to see the voicemails right on the BB screen (gives caller info) and you can play the audio. It does it from data, so you can save airtime from not having to call in to hear it, and since BIS doesn't allow us to receive the mp3/wav voicemail attachments, it is a great alternative

simulscribe's voicemail service is free, the only thing I beleive they charge for is to have them transcribe the voicemail for you.

With the new 2.3 BIS you can listen to voicemails with .Wav attachements. I'm just waiting to hear when T-Mo is going to roll it out.

Be very careful with SimulScribe. I used it for a month on AT&T and now I am being charged for overages because anytime someone called me and it forwarded to the SimulScribe VM I got charged minutes and I also got charged for calling to pickup my voicemails.
