Verizon Wireless Announces Successful LTE 4G Data Calls in Seattle & Boston

Verizon Wireless has been working hard to get their LTE(Long Term Evolution) 4G network up and running and have announced success in their first two test markets Boston and Seattle.

[via verizon] "Verizon Wireless today completed its first successful Long Term Evolution (LTE) fourth generation (4G) data call in Boston based on the 3GPP Release 8 standard; the company also announced today that it had earlier completed the first LTE 4G data call based on the 3GPP Release 8 standard in Seattle. The successful data calls involved streaming video, file uploads and downloads, and Web browsing. Significantly, Verizon Wireless has successfully made data calls using Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) to enable voice transmissions over the LTE 4G network." "Verizon Wireless expects to commercially launch its LTE 4G network in up to 30 markets in 2010, covering 100 million people. In subsequent years, an equally aggressive growth plan will result in full nationwide coverage in 2013."

[via intomobile]"Verizon’s LTE network will provide faster wireless data speeds several times faster than any 3G network today. It will make the best use of Verizon’s prime spectrum real-estate on the 700Mhz band. The lower-frequency spectrum more easily penetrates buildings and obstacles, making it ideal for mobile broadband services in crowded metro areas. So, not only will Verizon’s LTE network serve up faster data speeds, it’ll work almost everywhere you do! This test represents a major milestone in Verizon’s roadmap to a fully operational LTe network in the US. If things go according to plan, we will all soon be surfing the wireless web at speeds past what most DSL customers today are getting."

I'm glad to see this publicly announced. Now Apple/iPhone can focus on giving Verizon some new business in 2010.

This is very good to here. And I agree about apple and vzw. Not an iphone fan but that would be sweet.
