    Upcoming Plan Changes at T-Mobile?

Personally, I would never have a smartphone without a data plan. For me, that's part of why I own/use one. I wanted the web browsing and music streaming and can't imagine my BlackBerry without one. But I know that many just want all of the other functions of a smartphone but without data. There are many T-Mobile customers who chose that carrier because a data plan is not required. But according to BGR, all that's about to change.

Their tipster has claimed that starting sometime in June, all smartphones(new customers and upgrades) will require a data plan. No mention was made of the cost of this plan so we just have to wait for the next tip or for T-Mobile to confirm the rumor themselves. There are a few smartphones excluded from this according to BGR. They also mentioned an increase in the Unlimited Domestic Messages For Families plan from $19.95 to $24.99.

i have the 24.99 plan from tmobile .. i had the 19.95 for data plan but they told me that wasn't good enough to have because that plan was only to make long distance domestic calls and web browser for your blackberry, but if you want to hook it up to a laptop you have to get the 24.99 because it would be reserved for you to use the blackberry for a modem. thats what the representive said after i agrued with him about how i had everything working until the browser on my laptop said that i need a subcription for my plan so i had to upgrade my plan to use it for my laptop.. i liked it better when it was 19.95.. now my whole bill went up, it sucks paying for three smart phones for $217.00 a month..

I think a required data plan isn't a bad thing for BB, WMD and android (already required) as long as devices like behold and memoir don't get grouped in. Having a requirement like this helps right fit a person to a device that works best for them. If u don't want/ need capabilites u don't need that phone. Hopefully Tmo will have more qwerty phones launch before new policy. Main reason I see peeps with dataless bb is for keyboard texting.

I understand where they are coming from; BUT! they are taking away what made them unique and also brought customers that wanted the phones but no data plans. I don't think having a full requirement is a good idea. They should have something for folks that do and folks that don't.

Thanks for posting, Az. T-Mobile's tightening up the "looseness" on some of their "laxness" in what they'll allow their users.

I guess this won't effect my spare line T-Mo "to-go" that's on my 8320 since it's new and upgrades. I can still use wi-fi to browse and have my other phone line too.

i agree, i don't use a data plan and am quite content with my blackberry that way. i don't really need it since i have pc access at home and work. you really have to be addicted to need it on your phone too...overall i only pay about 50 a month for my blackberry; and by the way, t-mobile currently gives you a "free site of the week" which is fine when i'm bored or waiting in line somewhere.

I have a pearl and im not using a data plan. Im surfing the internet using T-zones. It would suck if i was forced to get a data plan.

Current customers don't panic...T-Mobile has always grandfathered existing plans and I am confident that they will continue to do so (besides the fact that a material change in your plan is grounds for termination with no ETF).

The only effect on existing customers would be if you go to upgrade to a smart phone that requires a data plan you would then be required to add the DP, (but after all thats what Craig's List is for)...

wow, that is horrible , well they made everyone change their data plan, no one is happy but hey can't complain much because tethering is free while other tethering costs money like 60 dollars so give tmobile thumbs up for being the cheapest phone company! well they keep rising it might as well go with pre-paid ...lol...i don't really know but i like plans ..
