Article in the journal describes a loud buzz or hum emanting from stereos alarm clocks etc when the device is in close proximity. this is known as BB buzz, and happens when electrical device convers cellphone radio waves into audio waves. This happens specifically with a type of technology that transmits data in serious of pulses that cause the buzzing sound. Some people people found the noise so irritating that they wrapped a piece of aluminum foil around the device. I personally haven't exprience this buzz.

How about you and how bad it is?

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ I have had it but not bad on a BB. Its insanely annoying on a sidekick however. My ex used to tell me "Move your phone!" when we chatted on Yahoo Messenger and I had my SK by my pc.

I've experienced this buzz with every cell phone. It happens because the frequencies that most cell phones use are able to be picked up by some speakers but only as some hisses and pops.

I usually only hear this if my BB is near the baby monitor. When I was using Nextel's, they used to cause static and popping over the radio in my car and the work truck. Very annoying.

I get it on my PC's speakers. I never use it as a cell phone that close to the speakers so I can't comment on that. But I certainly know when the BB is communicating with the server.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~I hear it very little with the bb. Like erica, it was really bad with the sidekick. I usally just move the bb away from the speaker when it happens.

This problem is common to all GSM phones and some unshielded electronics and electrical devices with audio output. Some are more noticeable than others.

    Hope this helps.

My 8100 BlackBerry constantly "talks" to the radios in th office and even the console at front desk... Annoying! Dunno if there is a way to stop it. Besides turning off the BlackBerry off. But that is an act of heresy.

Must be true because my 8703e w/ Verizon on CDMA has no problems. My 8800 on Cingular w/ GSM interferes w/ freaking everything, so annoying.

All my GSM phones would do that. I would know when a call was coming in before the phone would ring, because my computer speakers would buzz.

Since the Bb is also getting data sent to it, it probably happens more often than with other phones.

I get lots of buzzyness on my PC speakers if my phone is wtihin about a foot of them, but if I move it away that fixes the problem. It's embarassing when I forget and it starts buzzing here at work. My coworkers probably think I'm letting out a super fart.

This is a common problem among alot of GSM devices. It's certainly not exclusive to the BB devices.
