    *****IMPORTANT INFO*****
Be fore warned anyone looking into doing this, refurbs only have a 90 day warranty, not the full year like new devices, so if the device dies you have to either take the ETF or buy outright another device to finish out the 2 year committment.

I felt that I should let the masses know, as I have encountered that issue all too many times, and it may be better worth the money to buy new instead.

Anyone know if any other service providers are likely to offer similar incentives?

Yes kjbmax77 is right be careful, although I purchased a refurbished 8300 and died 30 days after I got it. So I contacted at&t and since it was still under the 90 day warranty they sended me a new one to replace the one that died on me. So I got a really good deal!!!

Just checked it out and the "extend your contract" really means "IF" your phone is ready for an upgrade within that time slot "3 Days" than it will work for you.

I just got one of the Free refurbs. They even gave me a choice of colors. At first they noticed that I just got a new 8120 less than a few weeks ago & was not eligible. So I asked for a supervisor, told her that I am a loyal customer with no intensions of leaving AT&T. That I would be happy to extend my contract, as I needed the phone as a backup in case mine went down, as I must have a BB for work. She was very courteous & immediately said that she would authorize it.

The phone looks like new, works like new and there is an easy workaround to the 90 day warranty.

All you have to do is call into tech support. Tell them that you are having a intermintent problem with one of the keys on the keyboard not registering, but only happens once in a while. Therefore you are asking that they make a note in your account & give you a case number. That you don't want to be without it or have it replaced unless it gets worse. Once you have a case number it's good for year. I know as I've used this method twice before. In my case I called in after eleven months, they no longer had the same model, so they gave me the next higher model which was new not refurbed.
This is one of the reasons I enjoy AT&T, they always take care of the customer. All one needs to do is be patient & nice, instead of angry & difficult.

    Cheers!
