Rumor has it that "stealth" was the codename while it was in development, and that the official name will be Pearl. I think for the sake of consumer appeal, obviously Pearl is a "nicer" name, but in the end I think most people in the know will call it what it is... the 8100.

I think for one the technical "8100" designation is a lot simpler and it will save in the long run from having to figure out what is what... it would SUCK down the line if RIM started coming up with cute names for their devices for the sake of making them "friendly" to the consumer. You'll see the Blackberry Greenberry, Blackberry Opal, Blackberry Moonshine and all kinds of crap like that... where before it was SIMPLE... you hear "7105t" or "7130e" and you know exactly what device it is and what carrier...

I guess that's the price you pay for entering "the consumer market"

Some say the Stealth was to be the name given to the QWERTY version of the Pearl. *shrugs* However, seems the Pearl got known as Stealth 1st.

It would be sweeeet if the stealth was the qwerty version and they kepy it a secret.

It would be cool, but you can't keep that kind of secret from the FCC...

If it was just another 8700 then it'd be no big deal, but they made enough changes to the design with the camera and the thumbwheel gone that they're gonna have to pass this through one day.

And you know there are people refreshing that FCC patents page 24/7
