RIM to beef up Blackberry wireless transfers

RIM is developing a technology that will allow its Blackberry smartphones to transfer files wirelessly between the device and a PC which works like the company's BlackBerry Enterprise Server, according to one industry analyst. Gus Papageorgiou of Scotia Capital believes anyone who has an MP3 player and a mobile phone is a target for the new service, requiring that BlackBerry users install software on a PC to gain access to RIM's network operating center. That center provides a link to the BlackBerry itself, according to the analyst, and would allow users to organize digital media in a way similar to Apple's iTunes software.

The move could give RIMM a piece of Apple's iPod market share, as BlackBerry users would no longer need a portable music player to listen to their favorite tracks on-the-go. Globe and Mail Update reports that RIMM has made no announcements concerning the rumored technology, but the analyst insisted he has gathered information that points to a future move by RIMM.

Am I missing the point? I just drag and drop tunes from my iTunes library onto my media card in a music folder, plug in a stereo adapter and my earphones and off I go. Much easier than carrying my iPod and phone!

Idea sounds nice, but I would like to see how this "mini BES" (as it was referred to in another article) would be put into affect.. I mean, the current music player interface isn't that slick and the video player is still picky about format so i'm not quite sure how practical this will be.

I would love it if it could work as seamless as slingbox seems to work. C'mon RIM, you know we want this!

Seems att knows about this and is trying to curb the functionality of the bb before it has a chance.

Defeat is not the worst of failures. Not to have tried is the true failure.
