"This is a huge blow for human rights across the globe. If the leading smartphone manufacturer is already selling us out before mobile internet becomes a standard commodity, where does that leave us in the future?

I, for one, will never buy another Blackberry until RIM backs off this authoritarian-appeasing stance.

That just goes to show that BigBrother (The Gov) no matter where always want in, but the sad thing once they get in, they just mess it all up. Kudos to RIM...

If they are major intelligent, why not they made the atomic bomb before pearl harbor and japan? therefore, I don't think so that they are very intelligent than civilizations of the world for rest..

What is the bottom line for all of us BB users if RIM did give it up?

From what it looks like there have been no official press releases stating that RIM has given in, the engadgetmobile article does not link to anything nor does it say where it got it's info, and the latest meeting between RIM and India' Government took place several days after that editorial was posted on the internet. This appears to be nothing than a rumor intended to spread panic, and the original source is most likely some one bent on damaging RIM's reputation and sales figures. I wouldn't put much stock in it, especially as RIM has been fighting with them this whole time, its very rare for one side of such a polarized issue, to suddenly surrender so easily and practically unconditionally.

I personally dont think that RIM will give in and set precedence for other governments to do the same to them, I hate to say it because i think everyone should have a blackberry, but I think RIM should cut its losses in India and tell them that they aren't going to cave in, even if it means losing the estimated 114,000 subscribers. Blackberry=Convenience+Secure communications. That's what it was founded on, and that's what made it a worldwide hit.

But what I don't understand is why they waited so late after they already have several carriers offering BB services. They should have said something before.
