RIM shares surge on talk of flip-phone BlackBerry

Although the surge would probably be greater if this info came out closer to launch. Nonetheless, RIM's shares surged yesterday on talks of a new flip-phone BlackBerry.

Shares of Research In Motion shot higher on Thursday after rumors swirled that the company will launch a flip-phone version of its ubiquitous BlackBerry wireless e-mail device.

Pictures of the purported smartphone, code-named BlackBerry Kickstart, appeared on the technology enthusiast website www.boygeniusreport.com late Wednesday night.

Whoo hoo!!!!! Go RIM, launch new device styles all together.

I would rock out a Research in Motion TV, and a RIM toaster, RIM Electric ToothBrush, and a RIM Flower Pot.

If it says Research in Motion somewhere on the product, it makes me

Personally I think it's a bad idea. The only thing that puts RIM and PALM on the higher end of the market is the fact that they don't conform to the lower end model phones such as LG, Motorola, Nokia, etc.

What makes more sense to the consumer, buying a RAZR v3xx for 99.99 after rebates or buying a Blackberry Kickstart for 219.99 after rebates? I don't know I can't see it.

HTC's trademark is the whole unit slider, RIM's trademark is openfaced bar style. It wouldn't make sense for them to change their tradewmarks. Companies are now making more slider style than they are flip style anyways.

I don't know, I just think it's a bad idea, it's my opinion and opinion's are like butt holes, every has one!

Well, the Canadian news folks may think a few pics would make a stock go up as it did yesterday - and it certainly didn't hurt, but my guess is some more fundamental news pushed the stock up. Specifically a target price of $190 (US) for the first quater of 2010, and the astute observation that RIMM stock tends to go up 14% in the 25 days after WES!
