    RIM has paid an undisclosed amount for SlipStream Data Inc, a privately held developer of optimization and acceleration technology for mobile, broadband, and dial-up networks, with a view to speeding delivery of data to its devices.

    Waterloo, Ontario-based RIM is the clear market leader in enterprise push email, with over 5.5 million subscribers to its BlackBerry service, the vast majority of whom use BlackBerry devices, though in recent years RIM has been licensing its technology to other handset vendors including Nokia Corp, as well as to the mobile OS consortium Symbian Ltd.

    Handsets represented about 71% of RIM’s $613.1m revenue in its first fiscal quarter ended June 3, 2006, when it shipped no fewer than 1.2 million devices. -- Read More
