RIM Aware Of Spam Problem...Are They Doing Anything?

Spoke with my "little birdie" again, and from those of you who know who I am talking about, you know that it's fairly reliable when my "little birdie" fills me in on things.

So here's what I have been told about the spam situation:

Apparently about 2 weeks ago or so, RIM was hacked and this is happening to BB's across the board, no matter who the provider is...

From what has been heard, at this point, RIM really isn't moving too quickly to get the situation rectified.

So, apparently it is up to us (the users) to try and find ways to counter-attack this spam war that has apparently taken place.

For those of you who have yet to start receiving spam, I would guess that it is just a matter of time before you start.

The best advice which I can give is to contact your carrier to see what the options are about setting up a spam filter on your account (Especially if you are not on an Unlimited Plan, such as Rogers Customers).

Please see the following links for any information which may benefit you, and again, it seems as if its time for us to collaborate to see if there isn't something we can do to fight this spam attack.

It seems like the more you try to avoid getting SAPM...the more you get.

FYI: It appears most of the spam is:

"Prescription emails" (Fharmacy economize more with blah blah blah)
    "Investment emails"
Emails that when you open, you see something such as:
    [1 Attachment]
    Savage: <cid:000c01c70a26$95100ac0$000000000@harang>
It then tells a little story which makes no sense what so ever.

Attachment is usually a .GIF file

T-Mobile customers (And others if your carrier provides a filter).

Try loggin in and setting up a filter that in the BODY of the email, searches for <cid:

It seems as if all of these emails that come through have that listed in the very top of the emails...It may help...I am trying now and will report back.

N8, I wonder if this might have something to do with the announced Edge/GPRS Maintenance Outage posted by Lewis?

I haven't gotten any yet on my BB. I have a yahoo account and most of the spam is dumped into my bulk mail folder and the good stuff goes to my yahoo inbox and BB.

The spams in question are not sent to your yahoo or gmail, but are actually coming in on the BIS email account. I rarely get spam passed from either yahoo or gmail.

Yea, I've been getting a ridiculous amount of spam. I thought it was some sort of punishment for being a lakers fan... But I guess not, lol! Any who, thanks for that filter alert

I went to the T-Mobile website to set up my filters and noticed that they don't have a choice for filtering the body of the email. Any other suggestions? Like for example, certain words that are showing in the subject line of these emails?

The one's I keep getting are "so and so has uploaded a file for you". It makes it appear like it is from Microsoft, but it's apparently spam. I wondered how anyone got my BB e-mail address as I haven't given it out.

Okay it appears that I can't edit my internet e-mail. When I go to it from my BB it says my session has expired. When I try to go to it from myT-Mobile it times out. Is anyone else having this problem?

I like everyone else HATE SPAM and I too have set up filters but I need to try the prev sugg about having it check the body of the email rather than sender .. I wish I could just block all that are not in my address book
