Research In Motion Shares Soar on BlackBerry Sales

Research In Motion Ltd. climbed 11 percent in Nasdaq trading after consumer demand for the BlackBerry e-mail phone bolstered sales and profit forecasts.

Profit this quarter will rise to between 66 cents and 70 cents a share, the company said yesterday. Sales will increase to as much as $1.87 billion. Analysts in a Bloomberg survey had estimated profit of 66 cents and sales of $1.76 billion.

The company marked its biggest sales day ever on the Friday after Thanksgiving, a sign that BlackBerrys have caught on with holiday shoppers. Consumers and small businesses now account for half of Research In Motion's new subscribers as it expands beyond corporate e-mail users.

"This is really just getting going,'' Matthew Kelmon, a fund manager at Kelmoore Investment Co. in Palo Alto, California, said in a Bloomberg Radio interview. ``Both the enterprise and the consumer markets are very strong. You're going to see better and better products.''

Just goes to show, the bears can short sell and try to twist facts into bad news, but you can't keep a good stock down or a company's amazing execution. Doubling your earnings from last years Q3 and blowing away analyst predictions tends to have that kind of affect. For those who bought in or bought a greater position around Dec's low of around $98 a share got quite a stocking stuffer. Got to love Xmas rallies.
