Orange Suspends BlackBerry Bold Sales Due To Software Issues

In an internal statement to employees, Orange explains its decision to temporarily suspend BlackBerry Bold sales while Research in Motion works on an industry wide fix.

Internal Orange Statement on the Bold:"Following reports of software issues with the BlackBerry Bold handset across a variety of mobile operators, Orange has decided to act in the interest of its customers by suspending shipments of the device in the UK. We are currently awaiting feed back from RIM as to when an industry wide fix for these issues will be in place, and expect this suspension to be an interim measure. We apologize for any inconvenience this issue may cause you."next steps BlackBerry/RIM are doing everything they can to resolve this issue and will be completing full testing and validation to ensure future handsets do not have any quality issues. This may take a couple of weeks so it’s up to us to do what’s best for our customers.

It may not be all ATT after all. If other carriers around the world follow suite, the Microsoft takeover that we talked about in the last post seems a lot more plausible.

Wondering what issues Orange is referring to...

No wonder why we've been seeing a lot of beta OS releases for the bold.

I'm sure RIM has already nailed it with the recent .162 and subsequent releases as they are MAJOR MAJOR improvements on the .127 that came stock on Rogers

No crap. I don't think that RIM really thought about whether or not this phone followed THEIR strategic business plan. It seems that RIM already had the curve8900 w/no 3g(and the other new non 3g for att) and ATT pushed them into making a 3g device(from what I've comprehended). Blackberry made Blackberry. They should stick to their ideas and not be pressured to do a project like this. I'll admit I do want the bold. But not for the 3g. I want wifi, gps, in a BB package, and most of all, I want it NOW!!!! So lets get in the game RIM!

They should just cancel the whole thing as a whole in the U.S. and release the 8900 instead.

    Yes it is possible...

Damn, that's really not looking good for RIMM and its investors. They were one of the few strong companies in the NASDAQ and they really dropped today because of this.

    This is very disappointing...

I heard O2 delayed the release because they knew these problems existed. Well done Orange for releasing a known faulty product! Anyways, the Bold is over - hail the storm!!!
