Opera Mini 4.2 Beta has been released. I had no problems installing it OTA by just going to http://www.operamini.com/beta, although I couldn't read the EULA (as if anyone ever does!). That version will co-exist with version 4.1. I did this all over WiFi without a SIM (don't ask!) on my Bold. They list a BlackBerry version on the web site (same URL), but it's only available as a Zip file for installation through Desktop Manager. I had a few extra minutes, so decided to see if the "BlackBerry" version behaved any better. I deleted the OTA version and installed the DM version. Both versions take a few minutes "Installing" on the first run - apparently pulling down more code over the network. The installation may appear to be hanging - just give it some time. Alas, it did NOT fix the EULA problem I encountered with the OTA version. Pesonally, I've never been that fond of Opera. I detest generalized applications that ignore BlackBerry features, and despise apps that are so generalized as to be almost unuseable. The only reason I keep Opera around is for the rare (and becoming rarer) web page that the BlackBerry Browser dosn't handle well and it does. I can't think of any I've needed to do that with in a long while! This site was rendered terribly (a bit better in Mobile mode), and input is hampered by the screen flashing with every keystroke. Still, I know there are a LOT of Opera fans in the BlackBerry world... |

Thanks Jerry, I also keep Opera only for those rare times I really must use it. I will keep the version I have unless this new one is able to be used with themes that have transparent menus without the Opera menu disappearing. Can anyone confirm if the new version still has this issue or if it has been resolved?

according to information posted by opera here: http://www.operamini.com/beta/ Performance is the biggest change. Faster download speeds for americas and asia pacific region due to a new server park in the U.S. there are small upgrades for nokia and sony ericsson: watching video on mobile youtube. As well as syncing notes and the re-introduction of skins from Opera Mini 3. That's pretty much it, though. Performance is what has me interested. Last edited by jfpannone; 11-11-2008 at 11:04 AM. |

Bummer -no copy and paste, but that is how the opera mini cookie crumbles. |

I actually use opera more than the bb browser. Mostly because, opera keeps my page logged on for hours. The bb browser, in about 10 minutes that I havent used it, it resets to the bookmark page. It doesnt stay on the page I was at 10 minutes ago. Am I missing some setting in the bb browser. And thanks, I will also dl this version of opera. |

Cool! I like the new skin feature, but I still prefer the default 4.5+ Blackberry browser.
