    OTTAWA, Sept. 17 — Can the BlackBerry, whose service is so irresistible to business people, finally spread the wireless e-mail addiction to consumers?

    The BlackBerry Pearl adds music and camera features.

    The question is a significant one for Research in Motion, the company that makes the BlackBerry and is now introducing a new consumer variation, the Pearl. But it is a critical one for cellphone carriers, which have for years been adding features to phones and networks to encourage consumers to run up their bills by using more profitable wireless data services.

    So far, an overwhelming majority has stubbornly resisted temptation. Will the BlackBerry Pearl fare any better?
