Try enable "message box" in "configuration" see here:

IRC Troubleshooting.

I'm not sure where to post this. I'm totally new to this and I can't figure out how to start a new thread. I just logged on IRC for the first time and I kept getting a window that popped up in front of the chat-room screen everytime someone sent a message. After getting seriously annoyed, I disconnected and went back into "Configuration". I had "MessageBox" checked, which I thought was the main chat window, but was actually the annoying lil window that kept popping up. I unchecked it, now it's all good. Jus a lil FYI, in case anyone else has the same issue.
