BlackBerry batteries are $50-$55 (plus any tax/shipping fees) from RIM so I don't think it's too obserd, since it gives much longer talk/use times. It's less than $90, about $85 ($79 service fee plus $6.95 shipping & handling) - yeah not much cheaper but.

Actually it's $79.00. The battery should last 2 to 2.5 years. So? It totally worth it to me to have a phone that will actually sync with Outlook, Entorage and iCal. Not to mention the fact that I can actually do software updates without borrowing a PC.

    Actually, I love it.

I must be alone on this. The iPhone, overall is much cheaper than my 7100i. Let's look at my situation:

    iPhone - $599.00
    Service - $59.00/month (450 "day" minutes + unlimited data)

    7100i - $399.00
    Service - $140.00/month (300 "day" mnutes + unlimited data)

One year service with iPhone - $1107

    One year service with 7100i - $2079

I know Nextel is expensive but I start saving money in under 6 months.

you should compare to a blackberry plan though at&t not another provider. also from the post above, you can buy a battery online for $20 for blackberry which for now you can not for iphone apple will try to keep a lid on it.

Nextel unlimited blackberry plan starts at 49.99, then add voice to that for a min of 39.99, then add unlimited mms( because Nextel doesnt support real sms) 20+ plus Nextel stupid taxes and you have 140. I pay 6 dollars in taxes with tmo, when i was with Nextel it 19 dollars.

And if you just got the phone, $500-600 at that, why should you have to replace the battery right now. So yeah, it sucks... Apple should address the issue and not charge for the batteries. They sold something that had more wrong with it than a little bug

I bought it a couple of years ago through Nextel. That was their price with a two year agreement. I was stuck with Nextel because of the PTT. I never even checked what other carriers charge.

All I know is AT&T is cheaper. I have no comment on their service but Nextel absolutly sucked west of Chicago. I can make and receive calls now where my Nextel had no service.

As far as the battery goes, Apple was upfront with the costs and the fact that the case was sealed. Still not a big problem for me since the good far outweighs the bad.
