Thumbs up iMacMobi (MacModem Solution) To Launch July 31st!

    Pinstack Exclusive!

It appears the solution that Mac users have been waiting years for is 2 weeks away, according to the site iMobiMac, who it looks are going to be the creators of the program.

    From the site:

Welcome to iMobimac: Your BlackBerry Application Store for Macintosh Users!
The BlackBerry device has become one of the top wireless devices used for both business and social needs. iMobimac’s innovative team of developers focuses on creating applications to improve your BlackBerry experience.

Sign up to receive more information about iMobimac Modem!
The iMobimac Modem application allows the BlackBerry device to be used as a modem via your Macintosh computer. Users are now able to access the Internet while at home or on the go!

There is a form to fill out with your operating system, carrier, etc for additional information. I have filled out the info and will report back any information that I get from them.

Word around the streets are this is made so that any blackberry can use it. so If you have an old 7520 laying around, it will work with that. And for the Cingular/Verizon users, this means no more paying a monthy amount just to use your BlackBerry as a modem.

*N8DBB: I figure since he missed this in the initial post, I would point out the web address:
    www.imobimac.com

Yes, thank you for the page link. I have also noticed that I mispelled the name of the company, as it is iMobiMac, not iMacMobi.

My aplogizes to anyone who googled or searched the wrong phrase.

I'm a little confused here... I already use my BB Pearl as a modem for my Mac. Why am I going to need this iMobiMac?

My Curve and my 8800 work fine with my macbook as a bluetooth modem. You just need to download the modem script and set it up as any other mobile phone. A quick google search returns several download sites for the modem script.

Did anyone ever try Pulse by Brain Murmurs? It won Alex King's bounty awhile ago. Did it do the job any better?

The thing about USB vs Bluetooth is this: USB is faster! Cable tethering is faster than Bluetooth wireless, unless I'm missing something.

Also, and, as an aside, Bluetooth is not "tethering." A "tether," by definition, is something that is connected via a physical connecting medium, such as a ball being connected to a central pole via a piece of nylon rope, hence the term for the game of "tether ball."

Bluetooth is a form of wireless networking. Tethering implies a physical cable, USB, Ethernet, or otherwise. How's about that for a connection: USB cable from BlackBerry (8830 in my case/Verizon) to an Ethernet Converter to your comp's Ethernet Port. Wonder if that might work?

    Thoughts appreciated.

Bluetooth 1.2 transfers data at a rate of 721 Kbps. Bluetooth 2.0 transfers data at a rate of 3 Mbps.

The BlackBerry 8100, 8300 and 8800 all have bluetooth 2.0. There is no chance of it ever being saturated by an Edge or EVDO connection. USB will not provide a performance increase.

The term "tethering" (when applied to cellphones), was dreamt up by Verizon to describe using the cellphones data service to connect laptops to the internet. The medium used is irrelevant. As with many phrases, it's all about context and should not be interpreted literally.

    Huh? Google Translator please?

BTW PPL, I have spoken with the developer of this application. There was an issue with the 4.2 OS devices BB application, but they resolved it and are doing a quick test on it now and they hope to get it to launch here soon. If anyone else has any information, feel free to pass it on.
