Gmail gets a new engine for iPhone and Android-powered devices

Today, Google announced improvements made to Gmail for mobile, running in the iPhone and Android web browser. First, you'll notice that it's a lot faster when performing actions like opening an email, navigating, or searching. And if the data network drops out on you, rest assured that Gmail won't. You'll still be able to open recently read messages and to compose over a flaky, or non-existent, network connection.

All this is achieved with aggressive caching and by leveraging new browser technologies, like HTML5 and Gears.

No love for Blackberries. We seemed to be getting left out of everything. With the large amount of Blackberry users in this world one would thought that google would include BB's. So sad.

    Interesting isn't it?

On another note.... really great changes. I'm a web cache junkie and caching really does make a BIG differnce.

Anyone get this on a G1 yet? Sounds like an "auto update" but nothing on mine yet....

We need a MUCH improved Gmail app for the Blackberry. The current one is garbage and really drains the battery fast.

    Anything on the horizon?

It would be a MAJOR improvement if the BB Gmail app could handle graphics in emails and attachments (bb mail does this natively on my 8900).

Also would like to see it able to check email more often then once every 20 minutes.
