First Firmware Update For The BlackBerry Storm Blows Into Town

Via InformationWeek: "If you've read any reviews of the BlackBerry Storm, you no doubt have heard that the poor thing is a bit buggy. Heck, even The New York Times'David Pogue harshed on it. The initial batch of Storm's are running firmware version 4.7.0.65. Over the weekend, firmware version 4.7.0.75 became available, and with it a bunch of fixes.

In InformationWeek's review of the BlackBerry Storm, I detailed the issues the device has. Software lag, accelerometer lag, app crashes, and other bugs really drag the device's usability down. Both of the review units I examined were running firmware 4.7.0.65. Many hoped that the bugs could (and would) be fixed by a firmware update.RIM has heard the cries for help."

Its nice to see RIM stepping so soon after the devices launch with updates. Even any Storm issues aside, I don't regret at all to go with the Bold.

Kudos RIM for continued support on all fronts.

I got the update this morning and I think this is a big improvement... I was waiting for the first few updates for me to determine if I would keep the phone...

This update is only for the 9530 as people keep forgetting there is a 9500 model not just the US 9530.
Please note I am a little angry as where is my update Rim?

Read the article all the way, and then go to the 95XX forum. This isn't an official release (so really, RIM isn't stepping up in any way shape or form yet) so we can't post where to find it, but read the article and he will tell you how in a round about way.

They should have went with AT&T, you might not have got the phone till sometime next year, but at least it would have worked

have you tried to delete the vendor file and then update? i have a 9530, but you would think it would work for the 9500 if you did that....

Well I've been using it for a couple hours and so far I think it has fixed a lot. The accelerometer was the thing that troubled me the most. When I wanted to switch the orientation it was so sluggish before. Now with the 4.7.0.75 it is almost instant. It loads my media faster as far as the music, videos and photos. I think it loads programs a little faster also.

I didn't have any trouble installing it but I would advise people to wait until the official release later this week.

I have to agree with the above posters....

.75 has dramatically improved the performance of my Storm in almost every one of the troubled areas.

I highly recommend this updated OS
