BlackBerry CURVE tops iPhone in December US retail sales!

Some may remember back in November last year I said "I wish more attention would be given to the replacement Curve (Javelin).I wouldn't be surprised if it outsells the Bold."

Well, For the second time in as many months, a list compiled by AvianResearch reveals the BlackBerry Curve is the best-selling handset in retail stores, with Apple's iPhone 3G again taking the runner-up spot. The sales numbers were collected for the month of December from the four major US wireless carriers, including AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile, which collectively account for 85 percent of all wireless subscribers. Data is collected from 100 service representatives from each of the four carriers via AvianResearch's Monthly Retail Store Survey. BlackBerry maker Research In Motion has topped the list since May with various Curve models. The touchscreen Storm is just below the iPhone on the December list at third place, with the Bold in the sixth spot, down from five in November.

A little too late in my opinion, at least for maximum potential. The Curve could have done soooo much more if the Storm and 8900 release dates were swapped for example.

BTW, the 8900 Curve is available from Amazon for $49.00 with contract etc.!

!! Wow the Curve really is a all around good phone though so it deserves it. I think the Curve 8900, Storm, and Pearl Flip well be RIM's most sold phones for 2009.

Every carrier sells the Curve but the iPhone, Storm and Bold are exclusive to one.

^^Totally agree. If the iphone was available for all carriers they would own the cell phone business as a whole. C'mon Apple lemme see what the iphone 3 looks like

The Curve is the backbone of the Rim line-up, just like the 8700 used to be. Both are rock solid devices.

Well, its smart that the curve is not an exclusive. Also, the curve is a house hold name. And if anyone wants to get into the BB game, the curve is the best deal (notice i said best deal, which the price for what you get is better than the pearl) especially for the price to get one with a contract.

By the numbers: Top 10 most popular U.S. handsets in December

Seems like Blackberry holds 3 spots in the top 10

The firm derives its ranking via its Monthly Retail Store Survey, which is based on responses from 100 service representatives and store managers at retail stores of the four major U.S. wireless carriers (AT&T Mobility, Verizon Wireless, Sprint Nextel Corp. and T-Mobile USA Inc.). The survey is designed to be reflective of the U.S. wireless market from both a carrier market share and geographic standpoint. Collectively, AvianResearch said the four largest carriers represent 85% of the U.S. wireless market on a subscriber basis.
