It can be installed on the device but to my knowledge it doesn't come pre-installed. It has to be loaded seperately in alx format.

I have it on 3 of my devices and it sends the emails out whenever you reboot, get some type of error, and sometimes at random.

so if this is the case where is does not come pre-loaded, where does one acquire this ninja like little app? after watching a PBS special on data mining, civil liberties, and digital information rights, I'm curious as to how this info is really handled. I'm not bashing RIM, but is this info soley handled by candians? If so, in the eyes of americans, thats invasion of privacy. If the info is handled by Canadians and then handed over to americans, its still invasion of privacy. MAybe i'm a conpsiracy theorist and just tend to think there is alot more going on here than we are led to believe.

How do we verify that we do not have "QUINCY" hidden somewhere in our BBs?

I'll prolly get this post deleted for some reason or another, it wouldn't surprise me.
I just want more info is all...
If a mod does delete this post, please answer some of my questions first.
    thank you.

Re: big brother Quincy (RIM) is watching you...

Well, this is just my personal opinion and thoughts, but I may be wrong.

The quincy file is in beta testing right now. My guess is that when it does get released there will be some way to redirect the reports to BES Admins and IT dept email addresses rather than RIM, which would be good for a company that has that one PITA device that keeps crashing or has an error that the end user can't accurately describe.

Again, I dunno if that's the case or not, but after writing that I think that makes a lot of sense (not to toot my own horn) and hopefully Rim is doing that or will have plans for that

First off I don't know why you think that this post will be deleted. but to answer you questions, The module name was given in one of the earlier posts. If you don't see that module listed in the Options/Advanced Options/Applications then you should be alright.

As to how it gets loaded, I would imagine that when you, if you had a support contract with RIM, or your BES administrator if you're on a BES, contacted RIM Tech support with an unusually thorney problem, they would provide you with a method of installing it. It's sorta like Timbucktu where the IT department can take over a PC on their network for troubleshooting but this just takes a snapshot of what is going on as the problem occurs.

Just my impression so I may be incorrect in this.

Re: big brother Quincy (RIM) is watching you...

Well I guess I'm getting answers in the right direction. I still think there are things that we will never know. RIM has a contract with the DOD, so that's why Quincy caught my attention right off the bat.

The reason I thought the post would be deleted is because I thought someone would take it as bashing RIM somehow.
    Thanks for all the info

Re: big brother Quincy (RIM) is watching you...

It seems that quincy is a reporting tool from RIM for beta firmware versions...I'd never seen quincy in any final release.

4.2 handheld software only have "diagnostic tools" to collect data in case of troubleshooting issues. And those informations can be send from user to besadmin...quincy sends it's data directly to RIM (beta@rim.com).

    I love the comments

"If you aren't doing anything wrong, why does it matter if big brother is watching"

Umm... its called freedom buddy. Which is what could slowly get taken away from us if pricks like you keep making comments like that. Just cause i'm not doing anything "WRONG" doesn't mean i want the government keep tabs on me.

And what constitutes wrong? what is probable cause?

Of course your signature is included in that email to Quincy. My signature includes my name, company name, office/cell phone number, fax number, web site, and a link to my online news letter.

Removed the aforementioned files with a nifty little program. Found this blog post: http://blackberryfree.blogspot.com/2...d-battery.html

You can use your DM to remove the files as well.

I had the app on my .46. once I installed .46 I noticed it was trying to send an email and i stopped it and went into setting and disabled Quincey and then options and unchecked everything. then I hooked my BB back up to DM and ran updates and it removed the Quincey app completely. It is not on my .46 version. It completely disappeared. When you run the OS upgrade it will show you that it is going to be installed but it is grayed out and you cant uncheck it.

Once I tried to re-run the OS .46 install it somehow put the Quincey app in my remove tool and took it right off. I don't usually install alot of the software that BB wants to have installed I uncheck alot of the programs so I'm hoping somehow another program was associated with it and it took it off. I'm upgrading to .52 right now and it didn't show it was going to be installed I will have to turn my network off when the phone boots for the first time so I can check and see if it is on there. I wounder if you don't have the internet on your phone if it still sends out a SMS. Also I resent the service books and that may be another reason why it took it off. I really have no idea but am very happy its not on there. from what I read before they say it will eventually shut down your SIM card. I feel that is complete crap that they even do that. It is what it is but its b/s....

Well I will have to see what .52 does.
