    AT&T to take over Alltel

Just in time for Christmas 2010, Verizon Wireless service in Pratt, surrounding counties and most of western Kansas will be switching to AT&T. A definitive agreement was reached May 8 for AT&T to purchase Verizon Wireless assets for $2.35 billion in cash. The transaction is not finalized and will have to have regulatory approval before the purchase is complete, said Kerry Hibbs, AT&T spokesman.

Thankfully it is mostly the more rural areas of Alltel's markets that will be effected by this. My Alltel market will stay Verizon, which is slightly cheaper than AT&T. But both are still much more expensive than my current Alltel plan, I'll miss you Alltel.

Also Verizon will be buying some of AT&T's assets as well. I guess those customers effected on both sides will be forced to get new devices as the deals conclude and the networks are converted between CDMA and GSM.

I wonder if these changes signal a new next gen network for all carriers that will all work the same? AT&T has purchased a lot of Verizon stuff is my more rural areas also.
Anyone know what the benefit's of this would be?

I believe I read that Verizon is going to use the same 4g technology as AT&T (and the majority of the rest of the world). LTE?

If Verizon takes over my area soon I am for sure looking at the storm. If it's later in the year I am looking at reported (rumored) devices such as the storm 2, tour, flip for my wife, and a couple of others.

I love my 8330 but I am also one of those who wants the newest device to explore and learn about. So if I get a chance to get something newer I am always going to do that.

I see. I have had my storm since it was released and I love it. I am keeping my eye on that tour it is looking pretty slick. It looks like the flip is coming pretty soon. But you have one satisfied Storm user here.
