    AT&T To Offer Hybrid Cellphone

    Announced today, AT&T and TerreStar are getting ready to bring a hybrid cellphone that will offer traditional service when available and satellite based service in remote areas. The transition between the two technologies will be seamless and offer the satellite service in the United States, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands and in territorial coastal waters.


    The device will feature:
    • Windows Mobile
    • Quad-band GSM/EDGE and dual-band UMTS/HSDPA 3G radios
    • 2.6-inch touchscreen
    • QWERTY keyboard
    • Wi-Fi
    • Bluetooth
    • GPS

    Wow, now that is interesting. I'm curious as to the pricing on this. We should find out soon.

    I'm curious about what you mean by "on a satellite networ, you will incur roaming charges." Does this mean this phone won't operate the same as the Bold on the ATT network? What about the Data? Is it going to function the same? If it is, then my my my, I am definitely looking forward to some beta reviews on this phone when they come. Wow. What an interesting concept...

    I would like to correct myself, after re-reading this article, I realized this is not a RIM product but a MWOS. I apologize for my mistake. Still a very interesting concept, nonetheless.
