There's an article entitled "Facebook app 'draining' BlackBerry". I must say though that I do feel it's simply a matter of BB overuse. Always checking and messaging via FaceBook means the backlight will be active longer, more vibrations if set to vibrate, led will be flashing more, WiFi or mobile data all will be a lot more active.

Here are 10 tips I'd like to share to help extend your BB's Battery life:

1. Options > Screen/Keyboard > Backlight Brightness -> (set to no higher than 50) --My setting: 10-- (effect = high)
2. Options > Screen/Keyboard > Auto Dim Backlight -> this setting also brightens the backlight automatically beyond the above setting. Therefore, set above to as low as possible and enable this setting which will auto brighten when needed.
   
3. Options > Screen/Keyboard > Backlight timeout -> Set to 30 seconds or lower --My setting 20sec-- (effect = medium)
4. Options > Screen/Keyboard > LED coverage indicator -> set to off. (effect = low)
5. Options > Screen/Keyboard > Key tone -> set to off (effect = low)
6. Options > Screen/Keyboard > Audible roll -> set to off (effect = low)
7. Profiles > Advanced > (Active) > If vibrate feature is used for phone, sms, IM's BBM's etc. Set Number of Vibrations to no more than 2 and for best battery life 1. (effect = high)
8. Repeat step 6 for Number of Beeps (e.g set to 1 and set volume to high or set as 2 and set volume to medium...) (effect = medium)
9. Profiles > Advanced > (Active) -> Set all Out of Holster profiles are set to Tone only. As much as possible avoid using vibrate or vibrate+tone for Out of holster. Here is were you'll need to enable repeat notification/LED flashing. (effect = high)
10. Profiles > Advanced > (Active) > Repeat Notification -> For those who use a hip-mounted holster set LED flashing to None under the In holster profile. (effect = medium)

From my experience Instant messaging apps seem to drain battery life a lot more than Facebook.

For heavy users of IM, email, Facebook etc you should consider upgrading to the extended Battery for your BlackBerry. Most are about double the OEM battery life.

Thank you for the tips. Also if you're going to need battery later and want to save some just put your berry in standby mode. I do that when I forget my charger and won't be home soon.

For those who don't know you can simply do so by holding in the mute key. (top side of BB)

Those are all very good tips. One thing I want to ask since there are lots of rumors out there about how to preserve battery life in the respects of how long and when you should charge your phone. Have you ever seen anything concrete to ensure that your battery will remain healthy longer? Such as letting it die the whole way, or turning it off before charging, etc.

I charge mine every night (or 2-3 nights) hooked up to the PC regardless of what I do. Right now I only use my Pearl for the MP3 player but may be adding the BIS back onto it soon as I get my other phone moved to prepaid.

Never seen anything concrete but its commonly known in electrics that you should drain them dry. Builders will often duct tape the button down on drills and let them drain dry before charging them
