10 BlackBerry Messaging (BBM or PIN messaging) tips for new users:
    1. Find or share your PIN - press ALT + aA + H simultaneously from any screen or in any message type the word mypin then press the SPACE key.
    2. In BlackBerry Messenger the blue check mark indicates that your message has been sent, D indicates delivered and R indicates that your message has been read.
    3. Add a contact - follow the instructions here.
    4. Rename Contacts - With BBM open, scroll to the contact's display name, press the menu key and select Rename Contact.
    5. Set (Availability) Alert - If you can't get through to a contact, set an alert. With BBM open scroll to the contact's name, press the menu key and select Set Alert.
    6. Get a contact's attention - You can use the "Ping" feature to alert your contact that you need them urgently. From that contact's message window, press the menu key and select Ping Contact this will cause your contacts Blackberry to vibrate once, thus indicating your message(s) awaiting.
    7. Start a BBM Conference - Chat with multiple contacts simultaneously in Chat Room format. From that contact's message window, press the menu key and select Invite, then select the other contact(s) that you'd like to join your conversation.
    8. Export conversation History - From that contact's message window, press the menu key and select Copy History. The entire conversation history is now copied to your Clipboard in plain text. You can export using email, SMS etc with the Paste function.
    9. Add Custom Groups - Sort your contacts using custom groups (ex. family, co-workers, etc). With BBM open, press the menu key and select Add Group.
    10. Get to the point, it saves time - When sending a PIN (BBM) messages, don't wait for the first message to be read by the contact before asking your question or making your point. No, type everything so that when the contact becomes available (maybe hours later) he/she can simply reply fully to your request. If you simply type "Hi" with no content or request then they will have to say "yes?" and if you are not available at that time... you get the point.
Remember to use the menu key to send files (docs, images etc), voice notes, edit your display name, change your availability status and more.

    Thanks Hayden for the tips.

However, I would just like to point out that (at least on my 8120) pressing "ALT +aA +H" does not work. Instead, you have to make sure you press it in this order "aA +ALT +H"

Otherwise, you just end up searching for a contact named "#" lol

    Thanks again for the tips!

Re: Tip 5 When you rename a contact, and they change their name, it wont change on your device. Whatever name you give them will stay until you change it again.
