more information as to how you set things up, what platform your running ...etc etc

have you created a BESadministrator account in Active Directory with the proper permissions ? What Service Pack are you running, what version of MDAC ? What version of SQL are you running

All of this info is needed in order for someone to help you

I mean the more detail you can give the better your chances are of getting help.....you can't call the Car parts store and say MY CAR wont start.....they are going to what to know details of you car....

also.....i just googled " Test database connection returned an unknown error" and found pages of results on what could be wrong

    give us some more info.....

sorry, had no idea all that was needed. Never done this before. Just trying to add some themes to the phone. Going down the line, Ill try to answer your questions as best as I can.

have not created a BES admin account. Wouldnt know where to start.
    platform is 2.0.0.90 (version v.4.1.0.194)
    I have service pack 1
no idea on the MDAC or SQL.

sorry, this seems as no help.

I think you need desktop manager not administration service.

I use th 4.7 w/o media manager myself. However they have been reports of glitches with the release. What device are you using?

I had the 4.7 release work fine for me. You dont really need the media manager for the 8700 because not much memory to use media anyway
Try the Desktop Manager 4.7 without media manger
    Good Luck

ok. I downloaded the desktop manager and the program doesnt acknowledge the theme files (.alx and .cod) files. Doesnt seem to reconise much of anything on the phone. I also downloaded the Application Loader Wizard, and everything boots up fine, but theres a message of "the blackberry desktop software does not have blackberry device software for the device that you have connected to the computer. Contact your wireless provider or system admin." Thats what brought me here to the first place. I can click add and bring up the browse box, but again, the theme files are not reconised. Is it really this hard to mod a blackberry?
