I was messing around on the Nexus 7 last night and went to XDA to see the latest and greatest custom roms, and found two different builds claiming 4.4 kat. I tried the first which was a Slim build flashed fine along with a 4.4 gapps build, but I lost my root. Went back into recovery and flashed my backup.
I went back to the forum and downloaded a ASOP build with their gapps package. Several people had posted saying their flash failed and were questioning the root issue as well. I flashed anyway and everything is fine. It is a straight 8 build with no customizations, but has the new launcher with all the Google Now features on the home screen, camera and whatnot.
I'll play with it for a bit and see where the developers go with it in the future as I am sure we will see a number of 4.4 builds for several device start to pop up now that the Kat is out of the bag
I tell ya, this 4.3 update has seriously turned my opinion ofmy device. Slowed down my 3 (somehow), transitions are slower despite tweaking, device feels sluggish and unresponsive, ad blocking is hit or miss, green if won't load system apps, insane battery drain...The list is long. Add that I can't go back to 4.2 and I'm constantly giving Samsung the finger. Knox sucks, I can't edit settings db to add toggles, who knows if root will stick. He'll the only improvement has been the DAMN keyboard but it won't let me type DAMN...well now it will.
Sammy, not everyone needs knox. Not everyone needs frigging enterprise security. I don't need warnings that something is accessing something in system. I KNOW IT IS. One of the major pluses to Samsung was it's developer/root friendly approach. Now you've screwed the pooch. Gimme my DAMN phone back or this is the last Samsung I buy. Interstitial I can type gimme but not DAMN (laugh @ saved spelling)....
Running Gummy 4.4 KitKat, it's pretty smooth but in it's early stages. Not too impressed with the launcher, ART has not progressed far enough to use yet, watching battery consumption. I also loaded CM11 4.4 KitKat but really hard on battery and for my use I need Hardware Key Customizations.
