ok this is not for the fainthearted. but if you want the colors bright on the colorball app(especially blue) open up the trackball assembly, cover the white led with a lil black tape. I just did it.

You can also just color the led with a black sharpie, which is what I am about to do.

Lol, I just did it in about 5 min. because I can easily take the trackball apart to where I need to and put it back together becuase I guess I have just done it to many times . By coloring the white LED black it makes the colors more rich and it looks SO much better.

Normally I love to tinker and mod all of my electronics out. But I think it's only a matter of time before RIM adds their own support for this feature. When they do I am sure they will turn off the white led on the ball when it is appropriate, which is what the third party apps cannot override.

I am usually in bright rooms anyway, where the auto-adjust turns off the keypad lights anyhow.

when you remove the trackball out. you see four lights underneath (light emitting diodes - LED) white, red, green and blue. the white light washes off the other colors. so to make thr trackball color rich, you block the white led off, either with a tape or a blacl sharpie.( black sharpie is the smarter option)

I'm trying soooo hard to see how a permanent mod like a sharpie (on a working LED, wtf??) is a better option. You never know if RIM will add native support for this feature in the future, or if you just plain get sick of the way you have it. Permanent mods are best only when you are positive it could never be different from the way it is stock. I love modding my gadgets but this sharpie thing just makes me cringe...

I think the sharpie method is just easier....and nail polish remover on a cue tip will take off the sharpie on the LED with no problems if it ever had to come to that.

Yeah, I thought of that too, but the acetone on the plastic surface lens of even a micro LED will change the way the light shines in the future. The tape or even a small piece of non-conductive putty over the LED would be much smarter if you ever had warranty concerns as well.
