    xPlayer vs Default...and more?

    Hey All,

I've got xplayer and really...don't notice a huge difference between that and the default player. So maybe somebody can give me some insight?

Which one do you prefer, if either at all and why?

    THANKS!
    Best of Luck!

It depends on what you're looking for in a media player, and also what version of BlackBerry OS that you're currently using.

I'm not sure about the BlackBerry Pearl 8130, but in some older versions of BlackBerry OS, certain "standard" features aren't supported...

For example, my BlackBerry 8800, which runs BlackBerry OS 4.2.1.68, is missing the following features in the default media player:
    • Shuffle
    • Playlist support
    • Full-screen video playback
    • Automatic skip to next track

There ARE alternatives, and SHAPE Services' xPlayer is probably one of the better "all round" media players, largely due to the fact that is supports both digital audio AND digital video...

Shuffle and full-screen video playback for example, are both supported in xPlayer, as are playlists and "skins" (you get a choice of two skins).

Another media player you might want to check out is Electric Pocket's FlipSide, which allows you to browse your digital audio using "Cover Flow", as made famous by Apple in their iTunes, iPhone and iPod Touch products...

Whilst FlipSide offers most of the "standard" features, it also allows you to download "missing" album artwork wirelessly, and can pull-up detailed information about the artist or band you're currently listening to.

I currently use xPlayer primrily for digital video playback, and FlipSide for my digital audio...

    Download xPlayer for free at:

You can download a trial of FlipSide at:
