having a sd chip is essential and a great perk of the bb. have owned mine since the day it came out on tmobile. with the sd, i can get on about 9 full comedy sitcoms, my favorite mp3's, and a few hundred jpgs, and all my important pdf, word and excel files that load up from the memory card. the sd card is an excellent feature. a must if you have a bb pearl.

As stated above without the memory card you are going to be very limited in your storage space especially with media. if you want to have ful mp3's, videos you need a card especially since you are limited to 2.86mb file size with desktop manager's media manager.

There are NO cons, except price, but that is no longer a con because they are $33 for a SanDisk. That's ridiculously cheap for a 1GB chip.

I bought two of the chips, one for my friend's 8100 and one for mine. To me chips are essential for storing music and pics. And in the event you put a few videos on it, that will eat up lot of space.

I got them for $33 each from eSmartBuy, through Amazon. They arrived in about three days from order date.

I had a 1gig card in my treo-I don't think I ever used it to capacitytill I started using an app called callrec (voice notes and call recorder). I have a 512 card in my Pearl. Part of it was because I was too impatient to wait for one (no 1gig's at my local BestBuy) and the other is I've found I rotate media on my phone enough that it's enough space.

Yes, just make sure it is a MicroSD. People get it confused with a MiniSD.

People get Kingston or SanDisk because of their reputation for quality, plus SanDisk has a lifetime warranty.

If you buy on eBay be careful. Some sell chips that are lookalike, meaning they are colored to look like a SanDisk, but they are not. Also lots of cheap Chinese knockoffs.

Go to that Amazon link I provided and get one through eSmartBuy.

What about the sandisk micro sd ultra II with a data transfer rate that rocks compared to the regular micro sd speed. But will it work with my 8100 pearl??

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ Buying the Ultra II Sandisk card won't really help you out unless you can find an USB cable or card reader that can support the transfer at the higher speeds, if not then you'll be wasting your money.
