    Question Wipe AT&T Pearl?

If I wipe my AT&T Pearl, will it restore EVERYTHING to factory defaults? Meaning all settings and options as well? Language preferences, security settings, font settings, etc? Also, if I do this, will I have to reload the OS? Or does the wipe do that?

depends on what sort of wipe you are doing...a wipe FROM the security options on the handheld will restore to factory settings...as it came to you.

Really? Because I was thinking of installing the new AT&T 4.2.0.96 OS. Would it be wise to do a full "javaloader" wipe? Also, where do I get this tool?

You don't have to. Only if you have problems I would do a full wipe. I have never wiped my pearl.

no need to wipe UNLESS you are having major issues.

Okay. Thanks for the link. One last question. Is their any difference in doing a wipe or a "javaloader" wipe and reloading the OS? Is one necessarily "cleaner" than the other? Meaning, if the standard wipe supposedly reloads everything back to default, will the "javaloader" restore it even "more" default... lol? And by the way, just to be clear, the standard wipe resets all preferences and options including; language settings, font settings, email preferences, browser preferences, etc., right?

    Thanks for all the responses!

    P.S. I'm running 4.2.0.73 cingular I believe.

I could not agree more. Unless you are having issues so serious that you cannot live with them, why mess with it? Speaking for myself, I've found over the test of time, that once you have everything setup to your liking and it's working well, it's best to leave it alone and simply enjoy it.

After all this is one of the most compelling reasons to own a BlackBerry is their superior reliability. I have spent countless hours, thousands and thousands of dollars trying different phones, pda's and smart phones prior to purchasing a BlackBerry, only to find the others woefully inferior to the excellence of the BlackBerry platform and devices.

In fact as I write this it comes to mind just how enjoyable this past year has been as I have purchased a variety of BB models and enjoyed every single one. Just some are better suited to me than others.

    Cheers....

ok, so first things first...you have a very stable OS right now, but i understand wanting to upgrade

the wipe from the handheld will restore factory settings...your BB will still be functional. after a java wipe, the bb will be a paperweight until you load the OS. i don't normally advise a complete java wipe unless you are having serious issues...its more like, wipe it clean and start over. does that make more sense?

Clear as mud... just kidding. But does the standard wipe restore the preferences and options? That is where my Blackberry is screwed up? Or does it just remove 3rd party apps and messages?

it won't remember what your previous prefs were, if that's what you are asking.
it will be like you just bought it and pulled it out of the box...

PERFECT! So I will have to go through the first start wizard again? How long does it take to do a wipe? And should I have it plugged into a power source during the wipe?
