Ok I got a question, I know there are a few people who mentioned that they were able to their Pearl free when entering a new plan. Where can I find a deal like that?

Re: Which service is better Cingular or T-mobile?

    Allrighty,

I've been a loyal Tmobile customer for what: 10 years now =) I don't remember what they were called before.

I've had this same plan for the past 6 years already

39.99 for 1000 whenever minutes, + Free nights and weekends +unlimited Mobile to mobile calling
All for 39.99, that's unbelievable to me. Which is why I stuck with the plan. I love this plan.

Plus, everytime I got a brand new phone or had a question about overseas useage, I called and I got somebody to answer all my questions on the other end every single time. The horn is always clear.
Somebody mentioned that the bill is very clear. Yes it is. I have hada steady bill for the past 6 years. Then I switched to the pearl, and I just added an extra $20 with the unlimited plan and I got the service books sent to me immediately. I've been using my pearl flawlessly ever since. I've had to get many replacement phones with tmobile and they have been respectful and quick when it comes to these type of services. Every company I've dealt with from small family owned business to MNC have given me the go-around, "have you tried unplugging it?" - yes "have you tried resetting the machines? - yes . It's everything short of "have you tried pretending that it works so YOU"LL LEAVE US ALONE?!?!?!" - No hahah..

Tmobile though has been straightforward and honest with me and I appreciate that very much.

I've tried ATT (old) and that was the absolute worst (before they used sim cards). Gawd awful. Then Cingular was pretty good, except I got the wrong phone. I had the Star Tac that still used the HUGE Sim card, the one that was still attached (by tabs) to the large credit card sized card. That was a pain. Otherwise, cingular was pretty good- can't complain about them. They had crappy phones, but service was the same as Tmobile.

So overall, i'm sticking with Tmobile until something comes along and changes the game.

My 2C for what it's worth.

Funny how AT&T keeps bringing up dropped calls.....AT&T is NOTORIOUS for dropped calls. Customer Service is very important and is the reason I've been with them for 3 years. Have that conversation about AT&T's customer service with some strangers and see what response you get. Of course you will get the few who have had good experiences but by in large they are well below TMo, Verizon in the customer service department.....And the nickel and diming that AT&T does is just ridiculous. I don't care how many towers they have.

You simply cannot beat TMO plans - not only do they have very aggresive minutes for your $$ (I currently get 1500 minutes for $39.99) and the 19.99 unlimited BB data plan that includes tethering is the best in the market. If they have good coverage where you live and work I would go TMO without hesitation.

If you are getting a data plan and a new line of service you can get a free 8100 and they will cover your shipping and activation icosts in most cases.

Check out wirefly.com or contact Alex at 1Shopwireless.com (TMO only - I personally have bought 4 phones from Alex with no issues)

Re: Which service is better Cingular or T-mobile?

I think it depends on several factors. I've read that AT&T and T-Mo co-own a third party company that manages the cell sites in CA and NY areas. Therefore they have the same cell sites and same coverage in those areas. I bought the Pearl from AT&T, for about $150 for the phone and $100 monthly) and was generally happy with it, but I found the Pearl with T-Mo at Costco for $50 and $59 monthly. It was a no brainer to switch considering I live in CA. Both companies had outstanding CS. I've had all 4 major carriers and AT&T and T-Mo are by far better then Verizon and Sprint. Sprint in my experience is by far the worst. They screwed me by extending my contract when I changed plans to a higher more expensive one. I've done that with other carriers and they're happy enough with the higher monthly and leave the contract end date alone.

Bear in mind that even though both companies supposedly share cells in CA and NY, I did find that for some reason the coverage was not exactly the same. No worse or better, some areas worked better on AT&T others for T-Mo, but different no less. Didn't make sense to me, but coverage for me on T-Mo has been as good as AT&T, maybe a little worse than Verizon, but by far better than Sprint. Bottom line, the easiest way is to try both. They'll let you out of the contract and get a refund before 14 or 30 days I think. That's what I did when I switched. Get what works best for you at the best price.

www.letstalk.com -- they offer great deals for getting discounted and free phones with 2yr contracts. sometimes, with the mail in rebates, you even end up making some money. when i used letstalk for the first time, i got a free phone AND made $60, which helped offset the activation charge from the carrier

Hmmm, maybe that would explain why, if you go to Mobile Network--->Network Selection Mode--->Manual, your pearl will scan for available networks and low and behold both TMo and AT&T will show up. Interesting....

Re: Which service is better Cingular or T-mobile?

T-Mobile. I'm on it for 7 years because for two main reasons: Customer Service and Price.

I don't exactly know why T-Mobile is so much cheaper but ultimately it comes down to what you plan to buy. I have considered going over to Cingular/ATT because everyone seems to be jumping on that bandwagon (for free calls...but the data packages are SO expensive! Rollover minutes is nice but I never use that many minutes anyway) but I am so far 100% loyal to T-Mobile because...

Customer Service! I love technology so it's not like I call them for stupid questions....but they are just the best to talk to. That 24/7 is amazing--if I've got a question I'd call them right then. Hence my 2am call on a THANKSGIVING morning and the lady was in a great mood to talk with me. Plus they act...genuine (or in my experience at least). If I needed to get a phone....even they are really cool with discussing phones on ebay. I don't ever feel like they're trying to "hook" me into anything and I love that.

Coverage is great for me, just check T-Mobile's coverage maps. Rarely do I get spotty coverage and when I do...all I gotta do is move a couple feet over to my left and whatnot.

Re: Which service is better Cingular or T-mobile?

Thanks to all the input. I am days away from being a proud owner of my very own pearl! I'm so freak'in psyched! As suggested I got the phone from letstalk for FREE and got a great plan and everything. Oh and I went with T-Mobile. I've never owned a GSM phone and to be honest I thought that T-mobile was the "poor mans" cingular/att (sorta how sprint is to verison). It's sweet to be wrong on that point. The positive feedback of T-mobile makes me feel a whole lot better.

Again thank you all for you responses. I'll let y'all know when the phone comes in.
