Hi Jd glad ur loving ur pearl (o= The standby mode is to save on battery life and to keep from hitting keys when you have pearl in ur pocket..Yet allows for incoming calls and texts..

It's hard to imagine how much battery life can be saved in standby mode considering that 99% of the phones functionality seems to be fully active. I've been using standby mode as opposed to autolock for the last several days and havent really noticed a change in my battery life. I still need to charge at least once every 3 days before the meter starts dipping into the red, or charge it up a little off my pc daily to keep maximum charge.

Hmmmm...oh I get it...this must be a trick question...right???Anyway, its like power save or sleep mode on any other phone...also it kinda acts as an iffy keypad lock...its better when u have nothin else in ur pocket because as soon as u hit that speaker button ur kinda screwed...accidentaly calling ppl u don't wanna talk to, starting apps, u know, things like that...also, if u have ur settings right, it will also let the device do a memory clean...I may be wrong as I never read user manials for my phones or any other electronic devices...ever...lol all my knowlege is based on sessions of staring at it and trial and error if I'm wrong about anything stated, I will own up to it...

i dunno about battery life.... but i use it instead of the keypad lock since it's a lot more convenient and easier to access. holding the little mute key is a lot easier when you're on the go than finding the */SYM key and holding that. sometimes i even use my chin to put my berry into standby

if you use the pouch or sleeve that it comes with then it does the same thing as standby mode, and the lock function because its protected by the sleeve so nothing is pressed and its still putting the phone on standby

Neither did mine but I see the 8120 does which makes me VERY happy although I am ordering a custom case for it.

Back to the original topic...I use Standby when I am either charging my BB, or not using it overnight.

I was thinking about doing the same, since I can't charge it while in the case(overnight).
