    Voice dialing girl

I cant get the speach recognition on the pearl working sensibly for me at all. The commands its recognises fine, for example "call", but names it never (well rarely) gets the correct name, in fact it typically picks the same few entries regardless of what I say:

    Examples:

Call Austin .... Steve Tosh calling
    Call Hilary ... Bupa calling
Call Mum ... Did you say call Blog, Bupa or Griffin
    Call Kirsten ... Griffin calling
    Call Brian ... Griffin calling
    Call Austin ... Griffin calling
Call Dr Sloan ... Bupa calling

It works only slightly better with full names but still usually gets the wrong one. Its also quite difficult to understand the name it has chosen to call so you have to look at the screen to see who it has decided to call.

For me as it stands Voice dialing is completely unusable.

Are there any tricks to use to improve the hit rate on the correct phone book entry?

    Re: Voice dialing woes

    Hi,

Not sure this will help but when i used it without my bluetooth i had miss haps too. I then started using it with my bluetooth headset and it works much better. I don't get the mis dials or the wrong person's number ie: home or mobile etc.

Yea, after I got my pearl I had to put last names in. Too many of the same name. Tom's, John's, Jenny's...ugh. I find that it helps with them.

For the first 2 weeks, people kept getting text messages from me asking for last names. LOL!

Here's a trick that's worked for some: Change the language from English US to English UK (save). Then change it back. The phone will relearn your address book names. I don't use voice with the phone much, just in my car's BT (different voice dialing phonebook), but try it.

Funny, it works well for me. I showed my 3 year old how to access voice dialing and it recognizes her voice as well. She uses it to call big sisters and brothers, grandparents etc. with no problem. I wonder if I've created a monster down the road!!!

    Re: Voice dialing woes

I have the same problem as the OP nothing I say to it gets any sense in response. I think mine is on UK setting as I am in the UK.

Voice dialling as it stands for me is pretty useless which is a shame as I need to make calls in the car when it is connected to my Bluetooth Car Kit (no address book though).

If anyone has any suggestions as to how to make this a useful feature I would be grateful

one thing that I tried that worked was instead of names I put initials in. Like instead of John smith I have js. And then say call js. I have never had any problems pmce I did that.

Mone was working fine until around a week ago. Now when I try and use it everything comes out as taxi, or Tarksee as the voice likes to pronounce it...

    Frustrated to say the least!

    Try this...OPTIONS>LANGUAGE>
Change your voice dial language (maybe try English UK) and save. Then return the the menu and change back to English US.

This will force the app to re initialeze and might help.

My 16 cents (adjusted for inflation )

You might want to try a couple of other things:

    1) Upgrade your OS. This did wonders for me. With the installed OS I could not even get voice dialing to work with my headset, after however, it woked perfectly.

    2) Change your sensitivty: options/voice dialing/ and then set sensitivity to -1 or -2

    3) Speak in a measured pace and tone. Essentially try to sound as robotic as the voice asking you to say a command.

I did all three of these and now the voice dialing feature works flawlessly.

My voice dialing works fine on my handset but when I try using my bluetooth earpiece, it totally sucks.

Awesome job! my phone now sounds British and doesn't just throw taxi numbers at me anymore.

    Nice one!

    Re: Voice dialing girl

When I first picked up my BB i was calling all the wrong people. I rarely have a problem anymore, what i do now is speak each word slowly. Call... Nicole... Cell... and sometimes you have to emphasize certain sounds, like nicole might be kneecole and jared might be jayred. Has helped me out, though i look more like a retard than that cool guy with a phone that does what he tells it to when i show it off in front of the chicks...
