I concur with MJWood, I had a lot of the same trouble with voice dialling until I realized that if I said the full name of the person it had a lot better recognition. Instead of "Call Diane" say "Call Diane [Surname]".

I must say that you guys are correct. I said the full name, slowly and clearly, and it worked like a charm.

I still think its quicker to type the first few letters of the person's name and then choose the number. For instance for someone named Andrea, i just type the following keys: "AS" "BN" "DF". Anyone in my address book with any combination of those three keys, in that order shows up, whether it be a person's first or last name. Then i scroll down and choose who I want to call.

Your method works great until you have a couple hundred contacts.

Plus, since I store all mine [last name], [first name] then anyone with the same last name (family) shows up if I try to type it in. I can scroll, but the more contacts you have, the better the voice dial is.

ETA: Plus, it works when my phone is locked/holstered in my car. Getting my phone out, unlocking it and typing while driving is somewhat of a chore and probably not very safe.
    As always, just my opinion...
