    Video FINALLY working on 8100!

Ok...I have been trying to figure this crap out, and now I have it. Ready for a crash course in this mess?

Here is the main issue that is arising:

The files have to be in MPEG4 Part 2 and H.263.

WELL, the newer video conversion programs are converting at MPEG4 H.264.

    Yeah, I know, its dumb.

Anyways, the 8100 won't read H.264, only H.263, which in my opinion was a HUGE screw up on RIM's behalf and it needs to be fixed with the new OS update for these devices.

Moving on, I was able to find ONE program that will successfully transfer bit torrent H.264 files into H.263 files, and that is MagicBit 3GP Converter.

Now, you can ALSO try and find FFMPEG, but good luck finding it because I hit a brickwall everywhere trying to find it unless it was Linux or for a Mac.

Okay, so you download that or try and find a different program to convert them, but trust me, I have tried and tried to find other programs and it wouldn't work. And then guess what? They want to charge about $25 for the software to convert it! WOOT! (if anyone needs help on this, if you catch my drift, hit me up in PM).

Allright, so you get your videos from whereever. As previously mentioned, www.ipodnova.net is a pretty good site. Also ITunes, whatever, whereever you want to get your media from.

Then you need to convert them into .3gp H.263 files, which is pretty easy to do once you know what actual software you need to get it to transfer.

Then when it gets done, just drop it into your Videos Folder on your SD card and you will be ready to roll.

One actual GOOD thing about the 8100 when it comes to this, you don't need to be running desktop manager in order to drop files into the SD card.

If you just connect to your computer, its automatically going to recognize the device as removeable storage (F: Drive on my computer) and you can just drag and drop.

I know a lot of this may not make sense to people, but if you need help or something explained more, don't hesitate to hit me up.

Can you make the video full screen on the 8100?

Your photos make it look as though it cannot do full screen. (And then the image is even smaller! When it's that small, why bother? Just get a video iPod.)

Maybe we could make a video request thread and host video files for the Pearl on our downloads section. Hydn if you are reading this, is it possible?

I am using MagicBit 3GP converter...It will take any video file and convert it into the extension we need. Like I said, the newer conversion programs and software are coding at .001 higher, and the audio can be played, but not the video.

If you need help with the software, hit me up.

Honestly, I have no clue. I have been playing with this thing trying to figure out how. Since I finally got video working on it, I am now going to try every shortcut possible to do so.

I am not sure if I need to change settings when I am encoding it or if I need to go into the pearl OS and see if it can't be changed there. Will let ya all know!

Here's an example of the file sizes I am getting when I convert:

26 Minute episode of "The Office" 19.62MB
    Alanis Morissette Ironic Video: 3.89MB
    25 minute Simpsons Episode: 20.81MB

    MP3's:

Averaging about 4-5MB per song thats approx 4 minutes long.

Re: Video FINALLY working on 8100!

    Hey guys,

as some of you notice the video in .3gp is small and kinda choppy...

    Check this out...

When you are encoding with MagicBit, from the drop down bar at the bottom, pull down MPEG-4 and use that, you will notice a HUGE difference. Smoother video, clearer video and larger video.

Sorry, I am learning this encoding and crap as I go. One minus obviously is its going to make the files a good amount larger, but if you are running a 1GB sd, you shouldn't have a problem with space.

Okay, here are screen shots encoded in a different version of MPEG-4.

Sorry, I am learning this as I go. As you can tell, HUGE difference.

Re: Video FINALLY working on 8100!

Pthomas, I am getting them from a website that someone here filled me in on, think it was sDOTmelfi? www.ipodnova.net

You will need a torrent program to download.

Then you will need to convert the media files to mpeg-4 format.

I am using MagicBit 3GP converter.

Hit me up or feel free to post here if you need information on how to do any of this.
