Question using pearl 8100 as speedometer, possible?

    hey guys!
i was wondering if it is possible to use pearl 8100 + external bluetooth gps receiver to calculate the speed and distance? i found that the program called speedOmeter can do this, but it does not list the pearl as a compatible device:/ do you know any other software that would do the job? thanks in advance,

BB maps shows the speed you're traveling at when using the 8130 Pearl's gps navigation, I would imagine it would do the same with an external GPS, but I've never tried it. BB maps is free, so worth a shot. I'm not sure about distance, never looked for it or noticed it...

Yeah if you had GPS program I would image you could use it to read speed. Works for my laptop with a GPS hooked up to it.~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

thanks for quick response, that's good to know that 8130 shows the speed.
i've found another program called ptracking, but again it is not compatible with the pearl
i am looking for a way to make a 8100 show tume speed, ave speed, max speed, distance and show/save them as log - in my previous post i've mention in general.

looks like that might be impossible, can someone tell me
    that i am wrong?

btw, i dont have an external gps yet,

isn't there any software (like ptracking) that can use data from a gps receiver and display the results?

Peter12345, that sound a bit like what i'm looking for. I've posted a similar thread asking for elevation, speed, and heartrate features in the GPS subforum. Just letting you know so you can keep an eye out on the thread in case something there pop up that you could use. I'll be watching this thread for the same reason

Just curious, what your reason for wanting the speed and distance feature in the GPS (if that not too private for you)?

hi Curiouswill, i sure will keep an eye on your thread, thanks for telling me,

i'd love to have that feature for similar reasons (exercises) + to check how fast i go down the hill and how long the trails are,
i thought that it would be fun to do it using a BB and cheaper than buying, let's say, a watch with a gps.

    What about bbTracker http://www.bbtracker.org/

I really like it, it graphs speed, distance, and altitude. It's pretty cool. Should work on a Pearl, but I don't have one to test it on (yet).

Cool, you got a link to the GPSed site?

List wondering if you could post it here to help other users to access it more easily. Plus I forgot where it is lol
