no magnet is good fro putting the phone to sleep. while in the pouch with the magnets by the keypad it will put the phone to sleep.
this also stops the phone from doing an emergency 911 call while in the holster.
no keys can be pushed or used. also the lights go off to conserve batt
Been a long while since last login. Sorry all, adjusting to a new life is great and hell at the same time!!

I'm going to take my chances. I'll be sure to verify this if this does happen since I know what could possibly be the cause now.
I can't stand having the phone in the case any other way, I need to be able to see the LED notification while still in the case. =X

I have a pouch for my pearl, not the one from t mobile, but it does have magnets and I've been using it pretty much ever since I got it and nothing has happened so far. Keeps my pearl safe and snug. No complaints here~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

honestly, it doesn't really matter either way...

I just grabbed the T-mobile Pearl case today, and I noticed that in addition to the magnetic flap at the top of the case, it also has a magnet down at the bottom (just below the clip)....

so - it doesn't matter which way you put your phone in... unless you remove one of the magnets, you will have a magnet next to your screen, and next to your keyboard.

Interesting... I have a generic leather case for my Pearl and found that when I slide it into the case the display shuts off when it is partway in, but goes on again when it is almost fully in. If the display is off before I put it in, it turns on when partway in, then stays on until timeout.

Does anybody know where the magnet is located on 'Official' BB cases?

    cheers,
    Joe

Funny, I've had BlackBerrys for years, each with a magnetic case, I've had the Pearl since it came out and the case has never caused LCD damage. I think that rep is mistaken...

He is mistaken. There can be no damage from such a weak magnet. NO WAY. Another Urban Legend.
