    Upgrading from a 7250 to 8130

    Well,
Ordered an 8130 today off of ebay (new) to replace my 7250 that seems to have died out on me.

I am VERY curious about the new blackberry, mine wasn't able to do anything modern.

I was wondering about the GPS.... I had google maps on my 7250. Will that work on the 8130? The provider is Verizon.

Is Bluetooth Dial Up Networking supported, so I can tether on my Macbook without having to boot into Windows? It wasn't there on the 7250.

What are the big differences between the two?

I'm anxious to get it and try out Facebook on Blackberry, and Pandora on Blackberry.

What do you guys recommend for (preferably free) applications? I had a 411 type app that I used a lot on my 7250

Overall, this is the right choice for the money, is it not? ($160)

    Thanks!

the 8130 does have GPS, so you'll be able to do google maps...

bluetooth dail up networking should work, but im sure you'll have to boot into windows... i personally dont use a MAC, but ive heard people complain about all sorts of compatibility issues with macs... (this is an assumption)

biggest differences would be a better color screen, faster processing speeds, video streaming, memory card...

there's a ton of free apps on jerry D's mini version tracker, you can find that in the blogs drop down menu from the pinstack homepage... "mini version tracker"

how much is a storm selling for on verizon? i heard they had some deals?
    i see RED...

$160 for a new 8130 is a pretty good deal. I've bought and sold over 50 BlackBerrys on Ebay. As Redd said, the memory card is a great help, now you can get a good pair of ear buds and download some serious music to your Pearl.

You're going to enjoy the pearl. The suretype keyboard is easy to get use to. I've always liked the size of the pearl. Post your review and let us know how you like it.

    Sorry to delay.

I would like to say that I LOVE the Pearl, but I am going to upgrade to likely a Storm or a Tour (I REALLY want the Storm) at the end of october when my plan comes up.

I made the same transition as the OP a while back. I went from a 7730 to the SureType series starting with the 71xx series and eventually the 81xx Pearl series (I'm on 81xx number 5, after having had 3 8100's and 2 8120's). The keyboard is easy to learn but there was some cramping. This will subside as you get used to the keyboard though. Good luck.
