Well i have been reading about unlocking the phone for about an hour now. And this may be a really dumb question, but why? what does unlocking it do? I also saw a lot of tm but not really and at&t. so if any stackers can help me without laughing too hard, that would be killer. Thanks

Hi Adam! Welcome to the Stacks!

Unlocking the phone means that you would be able to use your phone with other networks.
A fool always finds a greater fool to admire him. Fools admire, but men of sense approve.

This is mostly helpful if you travel internationally. Unlocked phones also have a higher re-sale value. Finally if you want a phone that your GSM carrier does not support you can actually purchase any unlocked GSM phone and slide in your sim and off you go!

    Re: Unlocking Phone

Has nothing to do with signal strength or coverage. You can simply use another carrier's sim in your phone if you're on the same network. For example, if your AT&T phone is unlocked, you can use a tmo sim in it.
