Controlling the volume & pace of an MP3 ringtone?

    Hey folks,

I have the T.V. show 24 CTU's phone ring as an MP3. I used it previously on my Treo 700 as a ringtone - it worked great.

I installed this MP3 on the Pearl via Desktop Manager and assigned it as my ringtone. It works. However, two problems.

    1) The volume of the ring is VERY loud! I can't see to adjust this either via the profiles or the volume button when the phone rings - which would be less than ideal anyway, but at least it would be something. It's quite annoying how loud the phone rings now but it appears that my only options are LOUD or turn the phone to vobrate if I'm somewhere where I don't want a SUPER LOUD ring on my phone to disturb everyone!

    2) THe pace of the tone is all wrong! What I mean by this is that the ringtone will play when a call comes in but then there's a good 3 or 4 seconds between that ring and the ringtone playing again - also very annoying!

    Any suggestions anyone?

    Thanks!

Re: Controlling the volume & pace of an MP3 ringtone?

You could reduce the volume of the ringer, but that would require an audio program. Audacity and dbpoweramp are two that I use and are free.

As for the repeat of ringing, you can go into your profiles and set the number of beeps or number of vibes, I have seen both, to 1 time, then it should play the entire length of the song.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Re: Controlling the volume & pace of an MP3 ringtone?

to change the default volume of your ringer-
go into .Phone or call log- whichever one your current theme shows
    options>general options>default call volume
    set it for 100%, 75%, 50%, 25%
setting the number of rings in your phone profile does not effect volume, nor does it require an extra program. It's already in there.
as for the lag between the vibrate and ring, that might have to do with your mp3 file having extra time at the beginning. you will need to edit your actual file. also, my phone was preset to ring only for 4 seconds. I had to call TMO and have it changed. That might also be the problem with your file playing incorrectly.

So how do you change the number of rings?

you can set the number of rings in your phone profile, you have a choice of 1, 2, or 3 rings. The DURATION has to be set by your carrier. In other words, my phone was only ringing for about 4 seconds, and then going to vm. TMO had to physically change the setting for me, over the phone.
